Sixteen years of walking the same Buenos Aires streets — and still not done looking.

I first came to Buenos Aires sixteen years ago, thinking I’d stay a few months. That turned into a season. Then a year. Then I never really left.

Over the years, I’ve fallen for this city in all its contradictions — the elegance and the grit, the 10 p.m. dinners and 2 a.m. conversations, the bookstores that never close, and the cafés that somehow become your second home.

Along the way, I became the “Buenos Aires Localite” for the BBC, chronicling the city’s quirks and charms. Then I published Buenos Aires: An Insider’s Guide to Eating, Sightseeing, and Getting Off the Tourist Trail — the top independent guidebook to the city.

This Substack is the evolution of that work:
An insider’s newsletter for people who want to experience Buenos Aires like a local — not just as a tourist.

What You’ll Get Here

Each week, I (along with my co-writer Bradley O’Neill) share:

  • Deep-dive guides to neighborhoods, food, and culture

  • Updates on new openings and off-the-radar classics

  • Practical tips for navigating life, travel, and relocation

  • Curated experiences that only locals usually know about

Whether you’re moving here, planning a trip, or already live in the city and want to go deeper — this newsletter is your shortcut to feeling at home.

Tell me: what’s your connection to Buenos Aires? Are you dreaming, planning, or already here?

Send me a note — I read every reply.

Welcome aboard. The adventure starts now.

Cheers,

Tim Fitzgerald
