From low-lit blues and jazz bars to stadiums that shake the city, Buenos Aires hits every note on the live music spectrum. Here we round up 14 of the city’s best venues, from the most intimate to the most immense. And it’s not just the acoustics and architecture that make these places so special; it’s also the crowd. Artists from all over the world rave about the energy and passion in Argentina, and they’ve even made a documentary about it. Whether you're into indie rock, tango orchestras, arena-filling pop stars, or punk that makes you pogo like your life depends on it, there’s always a stage and fanatical audience that delivers.

La Tangente

In the heart of Palermo Soho’s nightlife zone, La Tangente was born from a love of music, with the spirit of a club made by and for true music fans. An intimate venue, it’s the brainchild of Niceto Club founder Hernán Caputo and the American-Argentine singer-songwriter Kevin Johansen. It’s a former warehouse with a dark wood interior, a signature constellation of wall lights, and crisp acoustics. There are often two shows a night (8 pm and midnight), featuring a diverse range of genres, from jazz and tango to indie, funk, reggae, and electronica, making it easy to discover something new. The venue also runs in parallel with the adjoining Congo Club Cultural, which blends the vibe of a neighborhood bar with live music.

Bebop Club

If you’re after top-tier blues, jazz, funk, and soul, Bebop Club is your place. Its moody, velvet-draped interior sets the scene for two nightly shows (most days of the week) featuring both local and international acts. Small and personal, wherever you sit, you’ll be within touching distance of the stage. Previous performers from abroad include blues singer Laretha Wethersby, drummer Willie Jones III, and saxophonist Joshua Redman. The agenda features up to 600 shows a year, and since 2016 its been the main stage for the Festival Internacional de Jazz de Buenos Aires. Adding to the experience is a slick food menu and cocktail and wine list curated by sommelier Aldo Graziani.

  • Capacity: Approx. 180

  • Tickets: Passline

  • Location: Uriarte 1658, Palermo Soho

Club Atlético Fernández Fierro (CAFF)

Housed in a converted mechanic’s workshop, CAFF offers an atmosphere that’s community-led, gritty and rooted in raw musical passion. Established in 2004 by the tango collective called Orquesta Típica Fernández Fierro, it’s a fully cooperative space run by musicians for musicians. The orchestra itself performs every Wednesday, bringing unorthodox, explosive and energetic shows fusing tango with punk and rock. As well as being a concert venue, CAFF puts on dance and theater shows in addition to offering rehearsal spaces. The cooperative has a paid radio station, Tango Radio CAFF, with subscriptions including free tickets or 2x1 offers for shows.

El Emergente

El Emergente translates to “the emerging,” and that’s exactly what this self-managed Almagro venue focuses on: emerging talent. While not every show is a debut, there’s an emphasis on artists and bands progressing from early gigs to more polished shows. The place itself has a slightly rough-around-the-edges porteño charm with high ceilings, colonial windows, and a ping-pong table and metegol out back. It’s not your place to sit and softly applaud, but one to join a fun crowd for a dose of rock nacional, punk classics, and big guitar solos.

  • Capacity: Approx. 200

  • Tickets: FlashPass

  • Location: Francisco Acuña de Figueroa 1030, Almagro

Makena Cantina Club

Makena Cantina Club occurred from a chance meeting and an idea created at an asado in 2007. The next day, a struggling parrilla with an event’s permit was turned into a music venue, thus giving birth to a Palermo Hollywood icon. With exposed brick and graffiti-covered walls, Makena feels lived-in. It’s where you go to sweat it out, stay until dawn, and leave buzzing. Rock, reggae, electronic, and metal acts have all graced the stage, one that has welcomed everyone from rock nacional hero Pipo Lernoud to Scorpions’ drummer Mickey Dee. The Afromama night on Sunday is the stuff of legends, showcasing the city’s best funk, soul, R&B, and hip-hop.

  • Capacity: Approx. 300

  • Tickets: Passline

  • Location: Fitz Roy 1519, Palermo Hollywood

The Roxy Live

Another stalwart of Palermo Hollywood, The Roxy Live is an all-standing room framed by the stage and a bar. This is a much-loved haunt for rock devotees; yes, the leather-clad, unfiltered ones united by distorted riffs and big choruses. Expect a local line-up of alt-rock, dance, electronic, and punk acts. This is complemented by cover bands performing their interpretations of singalong anthems by artists such as Kiss, Motley Crue, Oasis, Queen, and more. After the gigs, DJs keep the energy going until the early hours of the morning.

  • Capacity: Approx. 500

  • Tickets: All Access

  • Location: Niceto Vega 5542, Palermo Hollywood

La Trastienda Club

San Telmo’s main concert venue, La Trastienda Club started life in Palermo Soho in 1979, where it functioned until 1984. Following a hiatus of almost a decade, it opened at its current home in 1993. A converted general store, the club has a cafe-concert style layout with a bar, tables, and chairs facing the stage. Depending on the artist, the main floor can be seated or standing. The line-up spans multiple genres, from folk to rock and tango, and predominantly local artists. But keep an eye out for international acts. Die Toten Hosen, George Clinton, and The Wailers have all taken the stage by storm.

  • Capacity: 450 to 700

  • Tickets: TuEntrada

  • Location: Balcarce 460, Monserrat/San Telmo
